Kaiser Permanente Fresno physicians are mentoring Valley students during a five-week program this summer. The students are part of the University of California-San Francisco Doctors Academy program. Pediatricians, surgeons, neurologists and adult medicine physicians are volunteering their time to work with 12 students who are interested in pursuing a healthcare career in the future. Congratulations go out to Dina Juve, co-founder of FitnessSocial Studio in Fresno for being a finalist selected by Women’s Health magazine to be the Next Fitness Star. As a child, Juve suffered from juvenile arthritis that left her inactive and heavy. Since she stepped into a gym at age 25, she has lost 80 pounds and now at the young age of 41 is considered one of the nation’s top fit women. We wish her all the best in the finals held on August 1st.

He has heard from a lot of new customers that they discovered his store after reading the paper.  Owner Edgar Burgin is glad he chose to set up shop in Clovis after considering other locations. “Clovis was the right choice”.

OASIS Adult Day Program has benefited from the CVCC  “Parker’s Team” firework stand on Clovis and Shaw Ave. he funds generated from the stand will allow OASIS to continue providing memory care services at a subsidized rate with no income requirements. Details: 221-0396.

California Health Sciences University welcomes Wendy Duncan, PhD, serving as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Provost and Interim Dean of Pharmacy. Duncan comes to CHSU from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where she served as Dean in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Professor. Valley Caregiver Resource Center, a non-profit organization that serves seniors and family caregivers, welcomes two new members, Michael Muhareb, Associate and LPL Financial Consultant and Gloria Cortez, Wells Fargo Bank-Business Relationship Manager, to serve on the Board of Directors. They also announce a training class for additional volunteers that is slated to start in September. Three Learn4Life Concept Charter School campuses – Crescent View West, Crescent View South and Ambassador Phillip V. Sanchez – held their Commencement Ceremony at the Warnor’s Theater in Fresno for 238 graduates on June 9th. The three high schools serve students who don’t fit the traditional school model and help them succeed in life.
