Good News from Clovis Chamber Members

Based on the number of Good News items from Clovis Chamber members, the end of 2009 saw improvements and great things are expected from 2010.

 Bank of Sierra announces the opening of a branch in Tulare with two more following in 2010 in Farmersville and Selma. CEO Jim Holly said, “In a time of contraction among banks across the country, Bank of Sierra’s ability to continue receiving branch expansion approval from the FDIC is a testament to our strong capital position and sustainability.” Details: 782-4900

 The Valley Animal Shelter is pleased to announce its expansion plans for 2010.  It is raising funds for its Canine Training and Exercise yards, Perpetual Care Sanctuary for Cats and Pet Memorial Garden.  These projects will complete its expansion plans at their site located east of Highway 168.  The 16th Annual San Joaquin College of Law Alumni Holiday Party for the Marjaree Mason Center was a heart-warming success for more than 50 moms and children currently seeking shelter there.  Alyson Gorubec of Clovis Unified School District tells us that Jefferson Elementary was one of only 35 public schools in California nominated to the national 2010 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools program.  More Good News from CUSD is that 19 of its schools have been singled out by California’s business community for breaking down barriers to student learning. They have been named 2009 Honor Roll Schools by California Business for Education Excellence Foundation.

 San Joaquin College of Law is proud to repot that Alumna Donna Tarter was just appointed a Kings County Superior Court Judge by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. She most recently served as the county’s chief contracted public defender, coordinating attorney for the Board of Supervisors and inmate counsel for the California Office of Administrative Hearings.

 Two of your local Pizza Huts are now “Pizza Hut Wing Streets”.  The two are located at Herndon and Fowler in Clovis and Cedar and Dakota in Fresno. Besides offering a variety of wings they have several new side orders. More Pizza Huts will be expanding to Wing Street soon. Details: 222-9340
